Wow! This is really our front yard now! Welcome, friends and family to our new blog. Be patient as we learn and find time to run into town for internet services. This picture is taken from the back of the lake looking towards the beach area with the campground behind it. Let me give a quick rundown of how we got here, and then I will give details about how to visit us. Last summer we came camping in Brandywine, WV. We met the camp host and chatted for a while about our love to camp. After learning about the Navy Base located 10 minutes down the road from the camp ground, we knew that big adventures were ahead. Brad was able to get some office space on the base, and a part time tele-work agreement. We did a lot of packing and planning and put the house up for sale.
Here we are! We are about 2 hours from Culpeper and 3 from Richmond. It is 40 mins past downtown Harrisonburg off RT. 33. As soon as you climb the mountain and cross the state line, we are 10 minutes on the left side.
We would love to have you visit. It is called Brandywine Recreation Area. We have a small fishing and swimming lake with beach in the day use area. Behind that is a 30 site campground with group overflow sites as well. The sites are $16 a night with running water accessible. Two bath houses with warm showers (cleaned regularly by yours truly family). This is in the northern tip of the George Washington National Forest. No reservations, but if you call us ahead we can scope out a site for you. Our number is 304-249-5128. We are pretty unplugged with no internet or cell phone. The stream water runs behind the campground, and the bears have only bothered us twice.
More to come soon!
Carol - Great to see you. You all look so happy. I'll be in touch soon - I want to hear the details!
